I am thinking about writing a list of “rules” about MFA workshops–that is, not rules to follow, but humorous inevitabilities in a workshop setting. For example:
1. That scene/event/character that you wrote that that is all but directly pulled from real life? That’s going to be the scene/event/character that your classmates question the most for its veracity. “That would never actually happen!”
2. Every week, the odds are very good that the two randomly chosen writers going that day are going to have creepy, unexplained parallels between their two otherwise very different stories.
Can you think of any others?
